Discrimination

The discrimination is a real problem in our society at present.

First of all, the discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of an individual because people categorize others in certain groups or category, discriminating against them because they are different, either because of their sexual orientation, or because their skin color, also the people discriminate against other people for their gender or for their religion… If you think about it, you realize that you can discriminate against people for any kind of things.

This year was promulgated in Chile antidiscrimination law or Zamudio law. This law was passed after the death of Daniel Zamudio, he was a young Chilean who became a symbol against homophobic violence, after being attacked and tortured in the Park San Borja of Santiago by a group of young people who, after several hours of beating, and wounding him weeks later ended his life. This act was the limit of discrimination, after this situation some people started to reclaim for the deep discrimination that we live in Chile.

But the promulgation of this law in July, which was accelerated after the brutal murder of Daniel, is not enough. We need, as society, change our behavior; we have to change our thinking. We must begin to accept people no matter anything. To produce these great changes we need to teach children from an early age. They should be taught that all people are equal no matter the difference we can see or think.

I believe that is very difficult, change the discrimination that we live as society… it`s a process that require long years of fight.
