English language Challenges

Well, I have always liked this subject, the English class, when I was in the school I always had good grades, because English, as a foreign language, never considered it as a strange language, because, I had always listened English music… when I was litter, I listened Michael Jackson music, or in my time of teenager I listened Backstreet Boy music… well, now I listen another kind of music, but always, in general, the music I like is in English.

In other part, when I went to college, I never did any course of English until the fourth year, because in the test of the first year came out that I just had to do this intermediate course… so, I waited until now… because in the other three years, I never found time to do this subject. So, I can only refer to this course whit de teacher Myriam.

This course, in general, I liked, because is more conversation and less books… so we have to dare to face the embarrassment of speaking English in public… and speaking English is very difficult for me, not like reading or listening… that is more easy for me. For that, the blog is a good tool, because accompanies the process of learning to speak with to learn to write, and thus, we can learn more vocabulary.

As I say before, I think that I need, with urgency, improve my speaking, because my pronunciation is very weak, among other things because I have shame to speak in pubic, with more reason if I speak in other language. And I plan to do that with practice, the other day I found a web site that when you write the word, one voice say to you how pronouncing it… that is useful.

I have to say that I use English these days only for reading, or listening (like music, movies or "Soap Operas")… I hardly find a moment and a person for speak in English.

My future Job

Throughout my years at the university, I have thought several times about what major could be the perfect for me, taking into consideration my preferences, my dreams, and, among other things. In this way I have to think my major from what I want to work in the future.
Therefore, I'd like to specialize in sociology of culture. This  specialty area generates reflections about knowledge of gender and about the culture. I would like to understand the society from a cultural perspective. In other hand, I'm very interested in gender issues, like symbolic violence against women, or the discrimination suffered by women in the workplace, among others things.

Moreover, I really do not imagine in what job I would like to have, because the field of sociology is so big, that is almost impossible think in about it… But I always think in myself like a museum director… I know that it’s sound a little crazy, but is my imagination. However, it's related to the specialization that I desire

When arrive the moment to choose a job I will take into account some aspects like the salary that will paid me, the hours of the workday, the place where is the job (if is close to my house or is a long travel to arrive to the job). Further I will considerate, obviously, the charge for which I postulating.

Finally, if I were in a job interview and they ask me about my strengths and weaknesses, I would say that my strengths is my meticulous way of be, and my weakness is my mood.

Discrimination

The discrimination is a real problem in our society at present.

First of all, the discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of an individual because people categorize others in certain groups or category, discriminating against them because they are different, either because of their sexual orientation, or because their skin color, also the people discriminate against other people for their gender or for their religion… If you think about it, you realize that you can discriminate against people for any kind of things.

This year was promulgated in Chile antidiscrimination law or Zamudio law. This law was passed after the death of Daniel Zamudio, he was a young Chilean who became a symbol against homophobic violence, after being attacked and tortured in the Park San Borja of Santiago by a group of young people who, after several hours of beating, and wounding him weeks later ended his life. This act was the limit of discrimination, after this situation some people started to reclaim for the deep discrimination that we live in Chile.

But the promulgation of this law in July, which was accelerated after the brutal murder of Daniel, is not enough. We need, as society, change our behavior; we have to change our thinking. We must begin to accept people no matter anything. To produce these great changes we need to teach children from an early age. They should be taught that all people are equal no matter the difference we can see or think.

I believe that is very difficult, change the discrimination that we live as society… it`s a process that require long years of fight.
